Cody Gill Band

02/23/2010

From the small town of Stephenville, Texas know as the Cowboy Capital of the World, the Cody Gill Band has a sound that is raw and original. A sound that is inspired by music from The Eagles and Robert Earl Keen to Van Morrison and Led Zeppelin, Cody and the guys in the band enjoy the road and the stories that come from being on tour. When asked what the best part of being on the road Zack Hooper, lead guitarist says “It is being on the road, living the dream and playing with amazing artist that seem to pop in from time to time.” Drummer Jarrod Baker said “The best place to play is also my dream place to play, in front of an awesome crowd.” Bassist Cooder Wade “My favorite venue to play at this point was 8.0 in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square for KFWR 95.9 The Ranch’s Texas Music series this past year.” Coming from various parts of Texas, the Cody Gill Band has grown together while on the road. Like most of the artist on the Red Dirt scene, they all agree that the hardest part of being on the road is “Leaving the family and friends behind to go play where ever the next show is booked.” Having collaborated with great artists and producers like Mike McClure and Cody Canada from Cross Canadian Ragweed, they make it a point to have a sound that is real and original. The latest album King of Your Hometown means something different to each band member. For Cody it is “The big fish in the little pond mentality. Every artist out there on the road is the king of their home town. It is just my story of being king of my hometown.” Cooder quoted the Eli Young Band, “It is the Small Town Kid story thru and thru.” Zack said ‘It is a picture of where we were as a band at that point in our careers.” For Jarrod, who is the latest addition to the band “It is just realizing my dream of playing in a band and being on the road.” With dreams of playing venues like Billy Bob’s Texas in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, to the main stage of the Larry Joe Taylor Music Festival, they have a vision of what the future has in store. The Cody Gill Band has very strong words of encouragement for the up and coming artist like themselves. Focus on your music, your band, and your business. Be confident and believe in your music. Practice, no one will work harder than you will. And last but not least, research the business and make sure you know your material. Going in to a show, make the best impression you possible can make on the venue and the crowd. For more information on the Cody Gill Band, go to www.codygillband.com.
